An Invitation to a Season of Gentle Creativity
Brushstrokes of Summer: A Relaxed Art Retreat for a Busy Season
Dear friends,
If you’ve been longing to return to your art—or begin at last—but the days keep rushing by, I want to offer something gentle. Something steady and kind.
This summer, I’m hosting a new online retreat called Brushstrokes of Summer, designed for the rhythm of real life. It’s a soft and flexible offering meant to carry you through the weeks between July 28 and the Autumn Equinox, with a quiet but steady thread of creative companionship.
This retreat is for anyone who needs a gentle structure to make space for beauty and expression in the midst of a full life. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a tender beginner, there’s a place for you here.
🌿 What You’ll Receive
Each week, you’ll receive:
Two video lessons — one shorter (around 15 minutes) and one longer (around 30 minutes)
Delivered directly to your inbox, on Sundays, the lessons are yours to keep and to work through at your own pace.
Simple, soulful art projects designed to evoke the spirit of summer—light, nature, tiny worlds, water, sky, ordinary moments of beauty
A private community chat space on Patreon, where you can share what you’re working on, ask questions, or simply feel the quiet encouragement of others walking alongside you, and me!
You can do the lessons as they arrive or return to them when you’re ready. There is no pressure to keep up—just a gentle rhythm you can lean into as needed.
💛 Why This Format?
Many of us want to live more creative lives, but we don’t always have long, open days or deep reserves of energy. Summer, for all its outward brightness, can often feel chaotic and even stressful. This retreat is intentionally slow, light, and flexible—a way to honour your creativity as it is, even in the middle of things.
There’s no chasing mastery here. Just space to show up and make something beautiful.
🖋 A bit about me
I’m Kateri Ewing—a writer, artist, and longtime art mentor. Over the past decade, I’ve had the honour of guiding more than 25,000 students in reconnecting with their creativity through gentle, soul-rooted practices. My teaching is grounded in the belief that art is for everyone, and that beauty and meaning can be found in even the simplest creative acts. I’m also the author of three bestselling books on accessible creative practice—Look Closer, Draw Better, Watercolor Is for Everyone, and Drawing Is for Everyone—each one an invitation to slow down, notice more deeply, and begin right where you are.

✨ A Few Final Notes
This retreat is designed for all levels of experience. You can join with zero art training or a lifetime of creative practice.
You’ll need only simple art materials (watercolour paints, paper, and a brush or two). A full supply list will be included with the intro lesson. Truly, you should not need to buy anything—unless this is your first time exploring watercolour.
If you have any questions please feel free to write to me:

I hope this retreat feels like an invitation home—to your art, to your senses, to your way of noticing beauty, to carving out just a wee bit of time for your creative spirit.
Thank you, always, for being part of this circle. I’d love to create with you this season.
With warmth,
Kateri
